Referral Map: Sing Orthodontics

Prepared for Jim Usdan | Sing Orthodontics | October 2026

As of Oct 9, 2026. Counts from published federal statistics on US businesses for 2023, described in the notes at the foot

This page maps the practices near your two offices that can refer patients into orthodontic care, in Travis County, which holds Lakeway and most of Austin, and Williamson County, which holds Round Rock. It covers the two groups your own site speaks to: referring doctors, through your Doctor Referral Form, and the physicians a collaborative approach to snoring or sleep apnea, as your airway page puts it, would work with. It sorts them by type and size, and says who usually makes the referral at each. It says nothing about which of them already refer to you.

Referral sources by type and county

Offices with paid staff, 2023, sized by the people at that office.

The federal file leaves a size class blank when it holds fewer than three offices. In every row here the blank classes are all 10 or more staff, so those offices are worked back exactly from the row total. The federal codes do not split dentists or physicians by specialty, so each row counts every office of that kind. The dental row also counts other orthodontists and your own two offices.

Who usually decides

At a small practice one person often does all of it.

TypeWho makes the referral
Dental offices (general and pediatric dentists, and other dental specialists, other orthodontists included)The dentist who examines the patient, owner or associate, often after a hygienist or assistant flags crowding or a bite problem. The front desk or office manager usually sends the paperwork.
Physician offices other than psychiatry (pediatricians, ear, nose and throat doctors and sleep doctors among them)The physician who hears about the snoring, mouth breathing or sleep problem, most often a pediatrician for a child, or an ear, nose and throat or sleep doctor. A referral coordinator or the front desk usually sends it.

What no public count reaches

Three questions this page cannot answer from a count, said in words rather than shown as numbers.

Which dentists already send patients to an orthodontist, and to whom. No public list shows referral habits, so that comes from your own referral records and from conversations.

Which physicians screen children for snoring or mouth breathing. The counts sort offices by kind, not by what they screen for.

Schools, school nurses and community programs. Public schools are government bodies, which this federal count leaves out, and the rest sit under other industry codes, so none of them are in a count of practices.

Three openings

Where the counts point.

Larger dental offices.

About 260 dental offices across the two counties have 10 or more staff. A practice that size may have several hygienists, so more people can spot crowding or a bite problem each week.

Physicians for your airway work.

About 1,500 physician offices of every specialty sit in the two counties. The pediatricians among them often hear about a child's snoring first, and the ear, nose and throat and sleep doctors they refer to are there too. The count cannot separate them from the rest.

Williamson County around Round Rock.

Williamson County has about 320 dental offices, about half of Travis County's 620, so a full round of the dentists around Round Rock is the smaller job.

Denominators, definitions and sources

  1. Counts are establishments in the federal County Business Patterns for 2023, county file. An establishment is one location, sized by the paid employees at that location in the mid-March 2023 pay period. Size classes the file leaves blank are worked back from the row total. Offices with no paid staff are not counted.
  2. Industry codes: 621210 offices of dentists; 621111 offices of physicians except mental health specialists.
  3. Built from published federal statistics, counts banded deliberately. Figures of 100 and over are rounded to two significant figures, figures from 10 to 99 to the nearest ten, and figures below 10 are shown as under 10. Each figure is rounded on its own, so rows may not add to the totals.

The named version of this page, the actual practices inside a row, is built one row at a time. If you want to walk through a row together, pick a time at cal.com/ecg. Prepared by Matthew, matthew@enquirerconsulting.com.
